SMELLS FOR LESS

How we price

A price built from the bottle up.

Not from a guess, a competitor panic, or a magic markup.

Every fragrance here is priced in two moves. First we work out the floor: what the bottle actually cost us, plus packing, US ground shipping, channel fees, a returns allowance, and the minimum profit required to bother. Then we decide whether it is a Known Value Item priced by live evidence, or a long-tail bottle priced by its real landed cost.

Step one

The floor is the lowest honest price.

We never discount below the floor. A "sale" that loses money is just a donation with extra steps. The floor is computed from real outlay, not a target margin pulled from the air.

Cost of goods

What we paid for the bottle, allocated from real receipts.

Channel fees

The percentage and flat fees the marketplace keeps on every sale.

US ground shipping

Perfume is flammable — ground only, never air.

Returns allowance

A share of orders come back; we carry that cost honestly.

Required profit

At least $4 net per unit, or a margin over goods — whichever is greater.

Step two

Two roles. Two pricing rules.

Known Value Item

Priced by evidence.

A KVI bottle is one buyers can price-check: a real house name, a barcode, and enough live observations from at least two sources. We set our price under the band median, so you still win on value, and we still clear our floor.

  • At least 3 live price observations
  • From at least 2 distinct sources
  • Target = band median minus our undercut
  • Never below the floor

Example

A Lattafa bottle is observed at $22, $25, and $24 across the market. The band median is $24. We price it a few percent under that — say $23 — as long as $23 still clears our floor.

Long-tail

Priced by cost.

A long-tail bottle has no credible comparison. That is fine — it just means we cannot use the market as an excuse. We multiply the real landed cost by our long-tail markup and clamp the result to the floor.

  • No barcode-true market of its own
  • Price = landed cost × markup
  • Floor still applies
  • Confidence marked lower until evidence arrives

Example

A niche inspired-by oil has no live comps. It cost us $12 landed. At our long-tail markup it lands near $28 — and the floor check confirms we still clear fees, shipping, and the $4 net minimum.

Step three

The volume ladder.

The more you take, the better the price. The ladder is the same across the whole catalog — in person or online — and every tier is still clamped to the floor. If a discount would dip below cost, the price stops at the floor and the quote says so out loud.

25%$45.60
38%$66.24
512%$105.60
816%$161.28

Example assumes a $24 list-price bottle taken in quantity. Real quotes use each bottle's actual list price and floor; the final price is rounded to a clean number.

Formats

Every format has its own floor.

Full sealed bottle

The standard unit. Priced by KVI evidence or long-tail cost, always under the house's own name. Every full bottle has its ingredient panel photographed before it goes live.

Best when you know the scent and want the most juice for the money.

Decant

A small measured sample from an opened library bottle, hand-labeled. Because it comes from our worn library, every decant carries the parent's wear data: wear count, longevity, projection, and scores.

Best when you want to try before committing to a full bottle.

Travel size

A smaller factory or hand-filled format linked to a parent library bottle. It inherits the parent's wear data and is priced by the same floor logic, just at a smaller unit.

Best for a bag, a desk drawer, or a gift that still gets real wear data.

Body spray

A standalone mist format. Concentration and size can differ from the perfume line, so body sprays are priced on their own cost and never inherit a parent bottle's wear profile.

Best for lighter coverage or layering without the full perfume price.

Bundle

A set priced as one unit. Bundle math uses the same volume ladder, but the discount is applied at the set level and still clamped to the summed floor of every bottle inside.

Best when you want a curated set and the deepest per-bottle price.

No surprises. No fake urgency. Just the price that clears the work.

We do not run flash sales, countdown timers, or "X people are viewing" widgets. The price you see is the price the bottle can honestly sell for — after fees, ground shipping, a returns allowance, and the minimum profit that keeps the lights on.
